The past two days ...

... have stunk, quite frankly.

On Saturday, a cold I had been fighting off finally broke through. As I noted in the previous post, I took some cough syrup to help me sleep. On Sunday, I dragged myself to church. I would have called someone in, but the worship experience was constructed in such a way that no one else would have been able to make sense of it. I figured I could handle an hour in the morning, get some sleep in the afternoon, then return for two brief meetings I had in the afternoon.

Wrong.

I had to skip the first meeting altogether. I made it the second one, but by Sunday evening I was absolutely beat -- coughing, sniffling, feeling light-headed.

I did the shot, then took some more cough syrup before going to bed and that was a HUGE mistake. The hydrocodone that was in the syrup really started playing with my head. My breathing was a bit labored, my heart started racing and I experienced what I could only call a mild panic attack. I imagine I got a maximum of three hours sleep the entire night.

I went to see my primary physician Monday afternoon and they were so backed up that I had to see a nurse practicioner, which was OK by me. She prescribed an antibiotic for the sinus infection and said I should take plain Robotussin and Sudafed. What I discovered next might explain a lot of what I have been feeling the past week.

I've found that if I do anything physical, I am getting a bit more winded than usual and sometimes get that feeling you get if your blood pressure is low and you stand up too quickly. On Feb. 4, I had the blood work done for Week 4 and have been waiting since then for the results. After going to my primary physician I headed over to Dr. Scott's office to see if there was any word on the blood work. They had just received it! It appears it had been sent to the wrong doctor's office.

The good news: my liver enzymes are improving.
The bad news: My white cell count is below the reference range.

A nurse gave me a copy and said Dr. Scott would be calling me about the white cell count.

And so, I wait ... but I won't be waiting too long. It's not my style ...

Grace and peace ...

Hi Buzz - I too have recently been pre-occupied with how winded and breathless I get - also because my white platelets are down - caused by the medication! Somehat naively I thought .... more exercise will help! But no, it is a side-effect of the meds which will only improve once we stop taking them apparently!

Hope your cold and cough symptoms disappear soon! Take care Ron
