Week 31: I can't believe it ...
I did the PEGIntron about 4 p.m. Sunday and Donna, Elizabeth and I went to see Geoff Moore perform at a Baptist church about 6 p.m. By the time we left around 7, I was started to feel the shot; by 8:30 p.m., I was freezing, teeth chattering, the whole nine yards.
I sat downstairs watching a movie with Donna and Elizabeth and eventually had two blankets, my bathrobe, socks, pajamas, and even had a stocking cap on my head. I probably couldn't have looked more ridiculous, but it was either that or freeze. Just to show Elizabeth how cold I really felt, I grabbed her arm with an icy hand. Her eyes grew wide ...
Once in bed, I alternated between freezing and burning up. By the time morning rolled around, I was achy and dull-headed. Today, it's not the chills but the sweats and aches. I have the air down to 75 and I'm still sweating; I took three ibuprofen and the aches have subsided.
Needless to say, I called in sick.
Last week was strange with the side-effects increasing over what had been "mild" after-shot days, but thus far this week has definitely been even more strange. Who would've thought that this far into the treatment I would feel this way?
Incidentally, I got a survey from the "Be In Charge" group. It was supposed to take 30 minutes, but once I hit question four, the survey stopped and said I didn't qualify. Here's the way it went:
Question: When did you enroll in the Be In Charge program?
Answer (from mulitple choice): More than 60 days ago
Question: Are you currently on treatment for your hepatitis C?
Answer: Yes
Question: When did you start the treatment for your hepatitis C?
Answer: Within the first 30-60 days of enrolling in the Be In Charge program
This question was the one that booted me out of the system:
Please complete the following statement:
I would describe the way I feel today as:
very pleasant/mildly pleasant/neutral/mildly unpleasant/very unpleasant
Since I was feeling "unpleasant," but knowing that I could always feel worse, I checked "mildly unpleasant." The survey responded with: "Thank you for you time, but you do not qualify for this survey."
Just for kicks, I went back in and checked "very unpleasant" and received the same answer. While I left it at that, it appears they only want to hear from people who were feel "very pleasant," "mildly pleasant," or "neutral."
I slept for a little while later in the afternoon, which is highly unusual for me. I was actually in a deep sleep, but forced myself awake. I figure I have a hard enough time sleeping at night.
Grace and peace ...
