On Labor Day weekend 2000 Historic Rugby will host a reunion for the descendants of Thomas Hughes founder of the Rugby Colony. To help celebrate the event a major effort is being made to gather information on early settlers in the colony. Historic Rugby will issue a certificate commemorating First Families of Rugby to any applicant who directly descended from an original Rugby Colonist. The information gathered will become a permanent part of the Rugby archives and made available to future researchers.
Applicants that cannot prove that they directly descended from an early settler may be eligible for the Rugby Cousins award. The only requirement is proof of a family relationship to an original Rugby Colonist.
ELIGIBILITY:
The applicant must directly descend from an ancestor who lived in Rugby during the period from 1880 to 1910. An official record for each generation must be submitted as proof.APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
The applicant must fill in the enclosed application and lineage chart. Proof in the form of primary sources such as: vital statistics; probate records; land records; tax records or census records will be required for each generation. Private papers and personal records submitted as proof will be evaluated on an individual basis, but the applicant is encouraged to submit any data concerning an ancestor that may be pertinent or interesting. A fee of $15 should accompany each application to cover postage, photocopies and certificate.SUBMITTED MATERIALS:
All material submitted will become the property of Historic Rugby and cannot be returned to the applicant. Therefore, only photocopies and not original documents should be submitted. Donations of original documents to the Rugby Archives will be gratefully accepted.Incorrect or incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant for completion or correction. No additional fee will be charged for applications resubmitted.
A committee appointed by Historic Rugby shall determine eligibility. The committee's decision shall be final.
